From the end of 2019, 4k movies with the Canon XA40 camera
Four times more pixels, four times more details... and four times more time to calculate a rendering or transition.
Still weighing less than 1200 grams, this single-CCD camera records 4k 25p images of excellent quality. The optical stabilization is even better than on its little sister, the XA20, as well as the results with the 2x digital converter in place.
The sequences of the video below show the little Grebe and the Red crossbill with the optical zoom at maximum, then with the digital doubler. They are presented without trying to improve the image during editing. A little contrast accentuation, possibly a sharpness filter in Final Cut Pro and it is impossible to tell the difference between sequences shot with and without the voice actor.
La caméra 4k Canon XA40
By playing with the 20x optical zoom that covers 35 mm focal lengths from 29 to 600 mm and the 1.5x tele accessory, we arrive at a maximum focal length of 900 mm equivalent to 24×36.
As a result, by equipping it with Canon's tele accessory and engaging the digital doubler, we finally end up with the equivalent of a focal length of 1800 mm in 24×36! Enough to discreetly film the most fearful species.
