2015-2019 – Slimming diet: the Canon XA20

Always in true HD, but in progressive scan mode. No more zigzag lines on videos in interlaced mode.

For barely half the weight of the Panasonic – 1155 grams – this camera produces images of incomparable fineness in progressive mode, although it has only one CCD. This gives an idea of the technical progress made since 1998.

Equipped with two SD card slots, it allows either the double recording of the clips for backup or recording relay purposes once the first card is full, or to take photos in parallel.

The multi-axis optical stabilizer has several settings that provide smooth shots in many circumstances, including vibrations of a car or boat engine.

In short, it's the most flexible camera I've used so far.

The Canon XA20

Several programmable buttons allow you to change the type of stabilization, lighten the image in backlight or change the display on the screen.

On this same touch screen, two buttons allow, one to switch from autofocus to manual and the other to trigger the 3-second pre-recording.

As soon as the latter is triggered, the time-code begins to scroll and, when pressing start, the previous 3 seconds are included in the clip.
